All eight 621-I crews arrived at Philmont June 20, 2006.

The busses arrived at Philmont's Welcome Center at 8:45 pm (MDT) -- slightly ahead of schedule with no significant issues on the trip up.

Most of the 92 participants were assigned wall tents, a few set up trail tents in "the meadow."  Everyone moved to their "trailbound" wall tents the next morning.

There were some itinerary modifications and changes due to the "Rivera Mesa" fire that was burning just south of Philmont.  As a precaution, Philmont closed the camps and trails along the south border of the ranch.  This necessitated the crews with itineraries that included camps like Fish Camp, Abreu, and Carson Meadow to select alternates.  For some crews, this meant a change of one or two days, other crews selected completely different itineraries.  The fire did not spread into Philmont and has now been fully contained.  Philmont has repopulated the south country camps and everything there is back to normal at this time.

Everyone got through check-in on 6/21 and 7 of the 8 crews were on their busses to their drop-off points by 10:00 am on 6/22.  The 8th crew waited for two of its late arriving members and had a late bus at 3:00 pm.

It is extremely dry but, as soon as our crews got on the trail, some thundershowers arrived!  We have had thunderstorms (some with hail) every day since -- this has helped with the dryness some and has lowered the temperatures significantly.  The weather forecasters are predicting thunderstorms for the remainder of the week.
