Philmont Council Contingents

2008 Philmont Trail Food Menu

During check-in at base camp, the Crew Leader and Crew Advisor will visit Logistics where the meal numbers will be provided to the crew.  These are written on the "Crew Leader Copy" that the Crew Leader keeps during the trek so the crew will know which meals are to be picked-up and eaten each day.  Meals are assigned by the day of the month.  For example, on our 2008 Contingent (624-B-xx), Day 5 is June 28.  On that day, the crew should eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner #8 (the last digit of the date corresponds to the meal number).

Suggestions:

  • Take spices to make the meals more palatable.  These may be obtained at the Tooth of Time Traders at Philmont or brought from home.

  • Coffee is not included in any meal.  Freeze-dried coffee packages are available at the Advisor's meeting during check-in or you may bring your own coffee.  Instant coffee is recommended because you have to carry your used grounds with you if you use grounds.

  • You may want to include your own sugar packages and/or coffee creamer packages.  Individual packages work best.

  • Crews may wish to bring a lightweight plastic pitcher to mix drinks for meals.  This keeps water bottles from becoming "smellables" and having to go in the bear bags.  Having a pitcher makes it more conducive to using the drink mixes which are needed for calories and taste.
